Livestock Judging Contests
During the summer, we have several members participate in livestock judging contests at various county fairs, etc. and provide transportation to each of the events.
Annually, after our November meeting the chapter holds a competition where members race around an obstacle ourse with a cup of water on their heads. First person to cross the finish line or last one to lose their cup is the winner.
National FFA Week
During National FFA Week, our chapter sponsors various activities in order to get FFA members as well as other students involved with agriculture. It is also a great way to have a little fun during the winter! This year we hosted a Cornhole BAGS Tournament, an Elementary Coloring Contest, and a Kiss A Pig fundraiser where students got to choose which teacher and FFA officer had to lay a smooch on a real, live pig.
Orient Pumpkin Days
During Orient's yearly festival we hold a Cow Pie Bingo fundraiser, Tallest Corn Stalk Contest, and Pumpkin Contest.
Each year O-M FFA hosts a Parent-Member Banquet. On average, 250-300 members, parents, staff, and community members are in attendance. Food is served, chapter members are presented with awards, live entertainment is provided, and $300-$400 worth of door prizes are given away.
The first annual O-M Classic Youth Sheep and Swine Show was held in 2012 at Adair County Fairgrounds. We had 156 hogs and 84 lambs at the event. Dozens of members, parents, and alumni turned out to help for a very successsful day.
Nutrients For Life
Chapter members worked diligently on educating the public about the growing population and feeding the world through the safe use of fertilizers. Our program received 3rd place and a $1,000 prize from the NFL Foundation.
Iowa Sporting Events
Our chapter likes to reward its members for a job well done at contests, etc. by taking them to either an Iowa Cubs, Des Moines Buccaneers, Iowa Barnstormers or Iowa Energy game in the spring.
O-M FFA also hosts a spring pizza slae where members sell pizza and other yummy foods to family and friends in order to help pay for the Banquet. The class with the highest total sales receives a pizza party and the highest salesperson is presented with a plaque and a $50 savings bond at our Banquet.
Our officer team spent time in elementary classrooms discussing "Trick O' Treat" guidelines and how to have a fun but safe Halloween experience. We also hosted a "Pumpkin Decorating Contest" where each student got to decorate his/her own pumpkin and gave out prizes.
Adopt A Highway
Every year, O-M FFA cleans up our two-mile stretch of Highway 25 to teach members about service learning and protecting the environment.
